Why was Abels offering looked on with favor while Cains was not?

New Apologetics Please pardon the omission. This question slipped through the cracks for a long time. Necessarily, the only reason would be that Cain’s offering was not one which sought unity, but was done in an attempt to elevate him above another. We say this with confidence because it is the only possible answer. God’s intention is only love, and only an action incompatible with willing the well-being of those whom God loves is displeasing to God.
