Baptize “in the Name of Jesus” or “in the Name of the Trinity”?

Hello! I’m a Catholic and I would like to clarify some points regarding on our holy faith.

Jesus told His disciples to baptize in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit (Matt. 28:19). But Peter baptized in the name of Jesus Christ (Acts 2:38). As the first pope, he probably used Jesus’ name instead of the Holy Trinity. So how come priests use the Holy Trinity in baptizing if Peter used Jesus’name in baptizing? And is it true that Pope Benedict XVI, when he was still a cardinal, admitted that the persons of the Holy Trinity written in Matt. 28:19 verse is a fraud and thus only “inserted”?

Hope you can provide answers or clarifications for this. Thank you.

  • New Apologetics The text in Acts 2:38 is not describing Peter in the act of administering the sacrament, but describes him addressing the crowd about the sacrament. It therefore has none of the implications you suspect.
